Blackout Options

What are the benefits of blackout blinds?

Overall, blackout blinds provide a multitude of benefits that can enhance your home's comfort, privacy, security, and energy efficiency. They are an investment that can pay off in the long run, providing peace of mind, better sleep, and a more tranquil living environment.

Here are some of the key advantages of blackout blinds:

Improved Sleep: Blackout blinds effectively block out external light, creating a dark and undisturbed environment that promotes better sleep. This is particularly beneficial for bedrooms, as it helps regulate the body's natural circadian rhythm and promotes deeper, more restful sleep.

Privacy Enhancement: Blackout blinds offer excellent privacy, ensuring that your home remains undisturbed even during the day. The dense fabric blocks out any prying eyes from outside, creating a sense of security and tranquility.

Reduced Noise Penetration: Blackout blinds can help reduce noise pollution from outside, creating a quieter and more peaceful environment. The dense fabric dampens sound waves, making it easier to concentrate or unwind without distractions.

Energy Efficiency: Blackout blinds can help regulate indoor temperature, reducing cooling costs in summer and heating expenses in winter. They block out sunlight during the day, preventing heat gain, and help towards trapping heat inside during the night, reducing heat loss.

Home Theater Enhancement: For those who enjoy home theater experiences, blackout blinds are an essential addition. They create a fully immersive environment by blocking out any distracting light, allowing you to fully focus on the movie or show without interruptions.  For this option you should choose BlocOut blinds or have your roller blind in blackout fabric installed onto the face of the window to maximise light blockage.  See the difference between BlocOut blind systems and a standard roller blind with a blackout fabric on our website section under BlocOut Systems.

Protection from UV Rays: Blackout blinds can protect your furniture and belongings from harmful UV rays. Excessive sun exposure can fade fabrics and damage delicate items, while blackout blinds act as a shield, shielding your belongings from the sun's harmful effects.

Enhanced Security: Blackout blinds can contribute to overall home security. By blocking out light, they make it more difficult for potential intruders to see inside, deterring burglaries or unwanted entry.

Durability and Longevity: Blackout blinds are made from high-quality materials and construction, ensuring they last for years to come. They can withstand regular use and maintain their functionality without requiring frequent replacements.

What's the difference between BLACK OUT & BLOCK OUT?

Blackout roller blinds are standard roller's with a blackout fabric which blacks out most of the light but light will still show through around the frame of the window.
Blockout blinds are different to standard roller blinds because they have a casing around the blackout fabric which is fitted into the recess blocking up to 99% of the light. You can read more details about them below.
More information on BLACK OUT blinds.
Blackout fabric on roller blinds do an good job of darkening rooms, but no standard roller blind is capable of blocking 100% of natural daylight or sunlight and they by no means completely blackout a window. Regardless of which blind type you choose, you will experience a light gap or the halo effect around the blind.

More information on BLOCK OUT blinds
Blockout blinds don't just block out daylight, in winter they can help keep the room warmer, and in the summer months keep the room cooler when kept closed.
Blockout blinds are different to standard roller blinds in a blackout fabric as they can block up to 99% of light filtering through.  These blinds are made from blackout fabric which is wrapped around a casing that is installed inside the window recess, you should be aware that these casings can be very effective but only if your window recess and window sills are relatively straight and squared, this is however not always the case and a sliver of light may still get through.

Anyone looking to create a good sleeping environment should consider a blockout system as they provide the darkness many people require to get a good nights sleep or for people working nightshifts and needing quality sleep during daylight hours.  They are also a perfect choice for a child’s bedroom, especially in the summer months with early sunrises and brighter evenings.

However, to get the full benefit of a blackout blind system it’s important that they’re fitted in the window recess, if your window recess is not level or squared as mentioned above there’s a possibility of slight gaps which will allow the light to seep through.

Blinds offer a simple clean contemporary lines for those who don't want curtains. Easy to maintain and keep clean and the ability to control the amount of light entering the room when required.  However, if installing these blinds in the window recess is not an option, or you still find a sliver of light coming through and disturbing your sleep, you may want to consider adding a pair of blackout curtains to further lessen the light filtering through.

BLACK OUT Curtains

Curtains frame the window and make a feature of your room, when open they allow the light in and when closed they make a room darker and give you privacy.

If block out blind systems are not suitable for your windows and you would like to achieve total darkness in a room, you could use black out fabric roller blinds and blackout lined curtains together on the same window.
